Edison Miranda vs Yordanis Despaigne
A scheduled 10 round Light Heavyweight fight between veteran Edison Miranda and Cuba’s Yordanis Despaigne preceded the main event. The third round saw Miranda’s punches start to find their mark, but again Miranda landed another low blow and referee Vic Drakulich deducted a second point. In the fifth round with both fighters landing punches and the crowd really into the fight, Miranda again landed a very low blow that forced referee Vic Drakulich to stop the contest. After the fight, Despaiges said Miranda was “fighting dirty with headbutts, lowblows and elbows.”

Fire & Fury at the South Point
WBA Fedalatin Welterweight Championship – Hector “The Hurricane” Munoz ran into his own storm against Ravshan Hudaynazarov in a slow moving 10 rounder.
WBA International Light Heavyweight Championship – Billy Bailey came in from Bakersfield with an 11-11 record to take on Gayrat Ahmedov of Las Vegas who carried a 16-0-1 record. Montano vs Suazo – Juan Suazo came in from Tucson with his 7-4-3 record and faced a partisan crowd going for Ramon Montano in a 6 round bout. Surprisingly, though, he managed to win the 5th and/or the 6th round in the eyes of a couple of judges but it was too late to overcome Suazo’s consistency of the previous four rounds.
Smith landed vicious uppercuts and body shots in the second round and only the bell saved Arcos from that beating. Diaz vs. Nichol – This 4 rounder appeared to be evenly matched by both records and physique of the boxers.
Bektemirov vs. Davis – Many assumed based on the lopsided records that the only thing stopping this fight from being a TKO was its planned 4 rounds. This writer still felt that Bektemirov easily won all four rounds and one judge agreed but, stunningly, one judge actually gave Davis the fight 39-37.
